Can you guess what pate de verre means

Posted by Arnold on 6/12/2013

Can you guess what "pate de verre" means?

Pate de verre is French for "paste of glass". Sounds delicious, doesn't it?

In fact, it is a process in which glass objects are cast by directing molten glass into a mould where it solidifies. Modern cast glass is formed by a variety of processes such as kiln casting, or casting into sand, graphite or metal moulds.

Pate de verre dates back to the ancient Egyptians, but it really came into its own about a century ago when it was revived by a group of French artists who gave this warm glass technique its current name.

The sculptures and figurines designed by Ajka Crystal's artists are exclusively hand-made and are produced in limited edition quantities. Two of these crystal figurines are available, however, in the webshop. Let yourself be charmed!
